The Green Car Journal has announced the finalists for the 2016 Green SUV of the Year prize which will be awarded in the Washington Auto Show next January.

After analyzing a large number of SUVs and crossovers, the jury decided to choose these five models for their fuel efficiency, lightness, triple motor technologies and use of alternative fuels.

These are the five finalists that will compete for the nomination of greener SUV 2016:  

BMW X1 xDrive28i

With an output of 228 horsepower, this German 2.0-liter offers a consumption of of 13.6 km/l on the highway.  

Honda HR-V

Equipped with a 1.8-liter engine and 141 hp, this new Japanese model delivers 14.88 km/l on the highway.  

Hyundai Tucson

When powered by the new 1.6-liter turbo engine, this SUV with 175 hp achieves up to 14 km/l on the highway.  

Mazda CX-3

With a 2.0-liter engine pushing 146 hp, this car reaches up to 14.8 km/l on the highway.  

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

A hybrid system consisting of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 154 hp and two electric motors allow this SUV to achieve 14.5 km/l on the highway.
